On June 28, 2017, the Barrie Colts selected Andrei Svechnikov at the 2017 CHL Import Draft with the first-overall pick.
Svechnikov played 44 for the Colts as a rookie scoring 40 goals and 32 assists. The only Colt to put up more points was Lucas Chiodo with 79. While Chiodo produced more points, it is worth mentioning that he played in 24 more games than Svechnikov that season.Svechnikov went on to be drafted 2nd overall by the Carolina Hurricanes at the 2018 NHL Draft. He scored his first NHL goal on October, 7th 2018 against the New York Rangers.
Since his first pro goal, Svechnikov has played in 205 regular-season games through three seasons with Carolina. He has scored 59 goals and 81 assists for a total of 140 points.
