While the season was cut short due to the pandemic, the Barrie Colts managed to pick up a huge win when Head Coach Dale Hawerchuk's son Eric announced some great news on his Twitter account.
Today my dad finished his final round of chemo Protocol in Barrie. Got to ring the “Bell of Hope” on his way out. “We hope” this is the end of a long journey but he’s ready for anything. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. Means the world to us.Thinking of you all #DaleStrong pic.twitter.com/4mP58YY3Ie— Eric Hawerchuk (@EricHawerchuk) April 14, 2020
Dale Hawerchuk has finished his final round of chemotherapy protocol here in Barrie. Hawerchuk is the longest-serving coach in team history and this is hopefully the end of what has no doubt been his toughest fight. Hawerchuk took a leave of absence from the team before the start of last season to battle his stomach cancer diagnosis.
We would like to send out our love to Hawerchuk and his family and hope that we are not only able to see you at the arena soon but see you behind the bench.
