How Old is Andrei Svechnikov? A look at 1997 and 2000. #OHL

There have been rumours going around online saying that Barrie Colts forward Andrei Svechnikov was born in 1997, though, he has been listed as 2000 born.

How plausible is it that a prominent Russian born player has lied all along about his age?

Could very easily be a dressing room joke & there's always these rumours but quite a few Russians around the league say they know Andrei Svechnikov is actually a 1997 born and not a 2000.

Though, the account went on to say that executives around the league feel it is a possibility; many who are close to, or work in the Colts organization feel that the accusations are nonsensical.

Though, only 3 years apart, here is PROOF (not really but lets have some fun!) that the top NHL prospect was actually born in 2000.

What happened in 1997: 

• Princess Diana died in a car accident in France.
• Mike Tyson bites off Evander Holyfield's ear during a boxing match.
• Scotland reveled that they cloned a sheep named Dolly.
• Andrei Svechnikov was still 3 years from being born.
• The Simpsons becomes the longest running animated series. 
• Titanic and Men in Black were released.
• Tiger Woods becomes youngest golfer to win the Masters at 21.
• Scotland votes to create its own Parliament after 290 years of union with England.

What happened in 2000:

• The State of Vermont passes HB847, legalizing Civil Unions for same-sex couples.
• Bill Gates leaves job as CEO of Microsoft.
• Summer Olympics held in Sydney, Australia.
• Tiger Woods becomes youngest player to win Gran Slam in golf.
• George W. Bush becomes president, following some confusion in Florida. 
• Andrei Svechnikov is finally born.
• We all survived Y2K.
• Gladiator and Erin Brockovich were released.

There you have it, Svechnikov was born in 2000!
