In 2012, the Barrie Colts selected Cordell James 92nd overall in the 5th round at the OHL draft.
In the 2013-14 season, James made his season debut in the OHL with the Barrie Colts.
On September, 23rd, 2016 the Barrie Colts named him the 18th captain in team history replacing former captain Mike Webster who was signed by the WBS Penguins following his OA season with the Colts.
On January 9th, 2017, he was traded to the Owen Sound Attack who were riding a 10-game winning streak. In return the Colts got a 4th round pick in 2018.
Since then he has appeared in 3 games as a member of the Attack and things seem to be going great for him. Over those games he has helped the team extend their winning streak to 13 games which is a franchise record. Named the first star of the game in one of those games, he has also scored 3 goals and earned a pair of assists to total 5 points. It took him 14 games to reach that total over the end of his time in Barrie. He has been a nice fit in Owen Sound. Another area he has shown to be helpful for the team is in the face-of circle. Over his first 3 games he has taken 59 face-offs and won 39 of them.
Over 36 games this year in Barrie, he put up 13 goals, 12 assists for a total of 25 points. He has 5 over 3 games with the Attack. At this pace, he could equal his production with the Colts this year over 25 games. Now, nobody expects him to average 1.66 a points for the remainder of the season but there is no doubt that as the Attack continue to climb in the standings that he will be a huge part of he team and his point total will only benefit.
As tough as it was to see him go, Colts fans have to be happy to see the early success and we wish him continued success over the remainder of the season and moving forward!
