Tonight, the Barrie Colts face the Kitchener Rangers for the first game of  a 3 games in 3 nights’ weekend. The Colts had a solid showing last weekend winning 2 of 3 games and they look to continue that success with a couple new faces in the lineup and a couple older ones gone.

Colts VS. Kitchener this season.

Barrie is in Kitchener for the final meeting of two this regular season. The first game saw the Ponies run over the Rags in a dominant 6-3 win.

Though the Rangers got on the board first, Barrie came out hard in the 1st period. Jake Henderson got Kitchener on the board first but late in the frame, former captain Cordell James (sad face) scored a late goal and Roy Radke would follow up with a goal to give the Colts a 2-1 lead. Barrie out-shot Kitchener 21-7 in the 1st period.

Apart from generated shots (9-3 in favour of Barrie), the 2nd period was almost identical. Joseph Garreffa got the Rangers a goal to tie things up but later in the frame Cordell James (double sad face) would score to put the Colts up 3-2 and later Roy Radke would score again to increase the Colts  lead to 4-2.

Because consistency is king, why not keep the same flow from the first two periods? Jeremy Bracco would score first in the frame to cut into Barrie’s lead but Adrian Carbonara and Zachary Magwood would both score empty net goals late to give Barrie the 6-3 win.

Barrie heavily out-shot Kitchener 42-18. They went 1 for 4 on the power play while killing off all 3 penalty kills.

Lucas Chiodo had a huge game with 3 assists on the night. Anthony Stefano, Justin Murray, Zachary Magwood, Jason Willms, Cam Lizotte, Tom Hedberg and Roy Radke all got assists along with former Colt Matt Brassard.

David Ovsjannikov got the start for Barrie and he made 15 saves on 18 shots faced.

Spits swallow Rags.

Kitchener 3-2 OT loss to Windsor last night was their 4th straight loss in a row and has them with a 4-4-1-1 record over their last 10 games.  They have dropped in the standings and currently sit in 4th place in the Midwest Division.

The Rangers had a strong showing but goaltending was the deciding factor in this game and Michael DiPietro was the winner. He made 36 saves on 38 shots faced compared to Luke Opilka making 18 saves on 20 shots.

Connor Bunnaman scored his 20th of the season for the Rags giving them a 1-0 lead but Windsor would score a pair before the end of the 2nd to take the 2-1 lead.

It looked bad for Kitchener but Connor Bunnaman would get his second goal of the night to tie the game with just under 2 minutes remaining in regulation.

Rangers got chances in OT and out-shot Windsor 7-3 in the extra frame but were not able to get an OT winner. The game would need to be settled in OT.

The shootout would see 3 rounds before Gabriel Vilardi would score on the last shot in the 4th round to give Windsor the 3-2 win.

Soo slays Colts.

It is Friday the 13th and the Colts were basically murdered by the Hounds. Instead of a complete breakdown of the 6-1 loss which we already lived through, this GIF should give you an idea of how the game played out.

Okay, that last one wasn't that scary, but the Colts loss was. Out-shot 37-21, allowed 2 power play goal and were terrible in the face-off circle. Can it get worse? Well, yeah. Cordell James is gone and was one of Barrie's best guys in the circle. Look for Giordano Finoro to be that guy now.

Lucas Chiodo got the lone goal for Barrie. Ovsjannikov got the start and made 31 saves on 37 shots faced. Tough loss after winning a couple games over tough teams but for the Colts this season, 2 for 3 is pretty great.

Final thoughts.

Barrie plays their first game since trading James and Lizzotte at the deadline but welcome a pair of new faces to the lineup in Jason Smith and Robert Proner. Today could be a game where the Colts look to see how the new roster will look and find out who meshes with who. Either way, tonight could be either a pleasant surprise or another Friday the 13th Massacre. Would be nice if we had ol' Joseph Blandisi here to give us a hand.

Puck drop is set for 7:30 tonight.
