Last night the Barrie Colts humbled (not in the way the Iron Sheik talks about excessively on Twitter..). With an almost fully returning lineup, the Colts walked away with a huge 9-2 victory last night in Sudbury.
First period: Barrie didn't wait long to get up on the board. A little over 3 minutes in Matthew Kreis would score his 2nd goal of the season with assists going to James and Andersson.
Less than 10 minutes later, Mangiapane would score his 1st goal of the night and ninth of the season. Both Scott and Carrick would be credited with assists.
The Colts completely dominated in the 1st period outshooting the Wolves 9-3. Uncharacteristic of this team but a breath of fresh air not only for fans but also Ruan Badenhorst who got his third OHL start in his career.
Second period: Less than 2 minutes in, Scott would score his 9th goal of the season extending the lead to 3-0. Mangiapane and Hooey both got assists.
8:13 into the period, Mangiapane would get his second goal of the night and third point of the night extending the lead 4-0. Blandisi and Lemieux both got assists.
36 seconds later the Colts would finally find a way to solve Badenhorst when Matt Schmalz scored to get the Wolves on the board. It was his 10th goal of the season. The score is 4-1.
That high wouldn't last long for the Wolves when Brendan Lemieux scored his 9th goal a little over a minute later. San Jose Shark prospect Labanc got the assist.
The Colts leave the 2nd period with a impressive 5-1 lead. They also managed to outshoot the Wolves for a second straight period. What team are we watching?
Around this point we took to twitter to share this tweet...

We acknowledged we likely jinxed the team.. Was that the case?Third period: Jacob Harris would score an early power play goal to bring the Wolves within 3.
7:32 in Mangiapane would score his hat trick goal and 11th of the season with Andersson and Blandisi getting assists.
8:52 Scott would score his second goal of the night, Hooey and Mangiapane would both get assists. The Colts are up 7-2.
15 seconds later, Ben Hawerchuck would score his first OHL career goal to put the Colts up 8-2 and liked it so much he did it again with less than 4 minutes left in the game to put the Colts up 9-2. That would be enough to get the W... And maybe a couple more W's. Colts win 9-2.
Sudbury came out hard in the 3rd outshooting the Colts 13-12 but they couldn't solve Badenhorst who looked great.
Oh, AND WE DIDN'T JINX THE TEAM! CRYING WOLVES ALL DAY!
(NOTE:No Wolves were harmed making this GIF)
- Badenhorst ended the night with 23 saves and looked solid. He gave us a chance to win and that is all you can ask of any backup. It helps when your team puts up 9 goals though..
- Mangiapane ended the night with 3 goals, 2 assists and as a +5 on the night. Huge game that earned him the first star of the game.
- Both Scott (2G,1A) and Blandisi (3A) ended the night with 3 points.
- Brendan Lemieux did not get a penalty.... Yeah, I know. Normally he just gets them for being Brendan Lemieux.
