Last night the Barrie Colts defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 5 - 4 in Kingston in a hard earned victory that the team desperately needed.
The Colts started newly acquired goaltender Jordan DeKort.
First Period: The Colts didn't wait long to jump on the score board with Hooey scoring the first goal of the night and his 4th on the season. Both Mangiapane and Labanc were credited with assists. Kingston didn't wait long to respond when Robert Polesello tie the game at 1-1.
Almost 5 minutes in, Pastorious and Graves would get into a fight. Pastorious also was also given a roughing penalty on the call so Kingston would go on the power play and would make the Colts pay quickly when Polesello scored his second goal of the night and his 6th on the season to put the Frontenacs up 2-1.
A little over a minute later, the Colts would tie the game up with a goal from Blandisi with the help from Jonny Laser. The Colts tied it up 2-2.
With under 4 minutes left in the game Kingston would take the lead back after Polesello scored his 3rd goal of the night, giving Kingston the 3-2 lead headed into the intermission.
Colts outshot Kingston 15-11 in this period and looked like a different team from their last showing.
Second Period: 5:50 into the period Kingston would increase their lead 4-2 when Lemmikko scored his second goal of the season. 7 minutes later, Mangiapane would bring the colts within 1 goal with the help of Laser. And with under 2 minutes left in the period, Blandisi would score his second of the night with an assist to Kreis to tie the game at 4.
That was when things got a little messy. Playing a disciplined game has been much needed for the Colts but Lemieux got enough penalty minutes and misconducts in the last minute of the period to leave the game. Really need to find a way to have this kid play with an edge, but to not be removed from games and spend too much time in the box.
Colts continued to out shoot the Fronts in this period 15 to 8 in the period.
Third Period: This period was all Kingston. Heavily outplaying the Colts and throwing 19 shots at Gibl who replaced Dekort who was pulled after letting in his 4th goal on 13 shots.
It would be Joseph Blandisi scoring his hat trick and game winning goal on the powerplay with an assists to Mangiapane. Though only a little more than 7 minutes into the frame, it would be enough to give the Colts a 5-4 win.
With this win, the Colts improve to a 6-3-1-0 record on the season.
Notes:
- Blandisi's 3 goal night was his 12th goal on the season put him in 2nd in the league for most goals and 3rd in the league for points.
- In 34:09 of ice time, Gibl faced 25 shots in relief of DeKort and saved all of them. He no doubt was a huge reason for this win.
- This win put the Colts in first place in the Central Division, though they will need to defend that tonight when they face North Bay who is fighting for position with 2 games in hand.
- Mangiapane also had a 3 point night with his big goal and 2 assists. One which was on the game winning goal.
- Jonny Laser had a great night with 2 assists and a +5 rating on the night.
The Colts next game is tonight when they return to BMC to host the North Bay Battalion. Tonight is also another Alumni night with Hunter Tremblay in attendance. Puck drop is set for 7:30!
